About Me!

My name is Lwando Scott and welcome to one of my many worlds. This can be loosely called a “lifestyle” blog, but really it is all the things that I love and find interesting. Ndiyazithanda izinto. Ke rata dinto. I’m neurotically opposed to the mundane and I’m obsessed with beautiful things. I am a Capetownian but I was born in Port Elizabeth. This blog is about the beautiful city I live in. It is about the different cities and countries that I have visited and generally about things I find fascinating. It is about fashion, it is about travel, it is about culture, it is about finding appreciating the beauty in the world. This blog is about all the things that make life exciting.

This blog focuses on my life in Cape Town, and my travels to other places around South Africa and the world. I focus on culture, fashion, art, design, and really just about anything that I find beautiful and that interests me. I have a more “serious” blog that you can check out. It’s called Queer Consciousness. Dr. Scott blog is almost the opposite of Queer Consciousness, although I do take fashion and culture very seriously. Also, of course, we know that “fashion” and “culture” are not outside of politics. Indeed, in certain respects fashion and culture are at the centre of politics.

Just a few of my favourite things:

Traveling: Cape Town in the spring, summer, and autumn. Paris in spring, summer, and autumn. Johannesburg in the summer. New York ALL year around. I love the Cape Winelands. I think Franschhoek is probably the most beautiful town in South Africa. I love the garden route. I grew up on the coast, so I have an affinity with coastal cities and towns. I live by the beach in summer, and I love beach wear.

I love books – Here’s a few to give you a taste of what I like to read. Everything by Toni Morrison. Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin. Another Country by James Baldwin. A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. Call Me by Your Name by André Aciman. Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi. The Heart Of Redness by Zakes Mda. Lost Ground by Michiel Heyns. Invisible Furies by Michiel Heyns. The whole Tales of the City series by Armistead Maupin. My Struggle 1, 2, 3, 5 and 5 by Karl Ove Knausgaard (looking forward to number 6). The Quiet Violence of Dreams by K. Sello Duiker. The Hairdresser of Harare by Tendai Huchu. Less by Andrew Sean Greer. – The list could go on.
