Big Queer Summer Pool Party 2019

This year’s Big Queer Summer Pool Party was as eventful as always. The Cape Town summer is not complete until we have the summer pool party. As you will recall last year, I was given the task of presenting the speech at the party. You will recall that i posse about Freedom and what it means for Queer people. The party is always a fun place to dress. It is an environment that by queers, for queers, to be themselves without apology and to express themselves. It is a really a place to fellowship with other queers, without the heterosexual gaze. Lats year, I decided on a more regal outfit, Miriam-meets-Mariah kind-of red sheer number. This year, I decided on a more dark and naughty-come-playful outfit for the party. I pieced it together a few months before the party. I believe in planning ahead, even for a pool party. I designed the outfit around the boots. They were the first item I bought, and then I worked from there. The different pieces; the tutu around my neck (yes, that’s a tutu skirt) I was found on Church Street off of Long Street; the harness was given to me by a good friend fo mine in New York, and I bought the boots from a local store downtown Cape Town. Everything was bought months apart and just can together wonderfully. The pool party was fantastic, and most importantly we raised money for local queer organisations. I am looking forward to the Big Queer Summer Pool Party in 2020. The big question of course is, what am I going to wear …
