Franschhoek Cap Classique and Champagne Festival 2017

Summer is Cape Town’s best time of the year. One of the most exciting events that I think of as one of the kick-starters of the festive season is the Franschhoek Cap Classique and Champagne Festival, “The Magic of Bubbles”, presented by Mastercard. This is a favourite in my Cape Town calendar of fabulous events. This year was even more fantastic because I won the Best Dressed Male AND Best Dressed overall for 2017. I really wasn’t expecting to win because although I looked cute, I thought they would be people more outlandish than I was. What also helped me win the competition was that I was in the spirit of things. I was wholeheartedly enjoying the festival and I think people responded positively to this. I had so much fun.

The Franschhoek Cap Classique and Champagne Festival has the same dress code every year: black and white. Whoever came up with this idea of black and white is clever because it creates a standing tradition. It is an easy “theme” in one way in that almost everyone has something black and/or white in their closets. It is a difficult “theme” in another way because it means you have to re-invent black and white everytime you go there. The black and white standard dress code pushes you to be creative in how you dress for the occasion. For true creatives and fashionistas, the theme is gold.

Another thing I love about the “Magic Of Bubbles” festival is that you get to taste some of South Africa’s best MCC’s. The quality of the MCC’s produced in South Africa is world standard. I have tasted bubbly from France, Italy, and Spain, and I would proudly be an ambassador for South African bubbly. The festival offers festival-goers an opportunity to taste some of South Africa’s best bubbly.

It also helps that the “Magic Of Bubbly” festival is situated in Franschhoek. I have fantasies of living in Franschhoek. I can see myself in a beautiful Cape Dutch house with two Ridgebacks with a beautifully manicured garden. I love Franschhoek so much that I have christened myself the Patron Saint of Franschhoek. Franschhoek is probably the Cape’s most beautiful small town / country side /farm land. Every visitor that comes to Cape Town, I take them to Franschhoek. It is so beautiful, it doesn’t seem real. Some have said it isn’t real, and I say to them I want to be part of the unrealness of Franschhoek.

I look forward to the next “Magic Of Bubbles” festival which will be in 2018. I should start thinking about what I will wear to the festival in 2018.
