A lover’s nest in Plettenberg Bay

The Garden Route is filled with fantastic places to stay, ranging from fancy boutique places to the super rugged. When going to a birthday party near Plettenberg Bay, the “Lovely and spacey cottage” was a great find. The cottage is on a working farm with mainly horses and ducks. It is a beautiful lush farm off the N2 on a winding road surrounded by other beautiful and functioning farms. The cottage is really for one or two people or three people, but it is spacious. It is open and roomy. It is the perfect love nest for a couple or a throuple, but I have to admit, I also thought it was perfect for one person wanting solitude to get away from it all. Not to mention that it is perfect for a week of writing is silence and with nature.

The cottage is white in colour surrounded by green trees and flowers, giving a tranquil atmosphere. Inside, the cottage has off-white, so not bright, walls with brown wooden floors and trimmings. It is furnished with old South African wooden furniture and all of this gives the space a warm and homey feel. Relaxation is achieved merely by entering the space.

When standing on the veranda, you look out on to the farm yard, and there are horses grazing and drinking from the pond. The cottage is quiet. It is so still, you can hear all your thoughts. For someone that lives in the city, and loves the city, but sometimes wants quiet moments, this was the perfect place. I want to go back to this cottage, maybe for a week of writing.

While the people who own the farm live close by, they keep to themselves. They give you the cottage and you do and go as you please. While they might be helpful if you need something, you have amazing privacy.

Provided with such amazing scenery, I couldn’t resist taking pictures. I kept on thinking about how these pictures would look put together. Also, I wanted to remember this beautiful place, and needed to document the beauty. Because beauty is important. Looking at it. Reveling in it. Sharing it. In fact one must make time for beautiful things. I enjoyed my time at this “lovely and spacious” place, and I hope that my joy comes through in these pictures.
