Square of Miracles – Pisa, Tuscany, Italy,

It was all by accident that I was able to see a bit of the City of Pisa, Italy and to visit the Square of Miracles. I was living in Ghent, Belgium, and Pierre and organised to meet each other in Venice. After Venice, we travelled to Florence by train. It was a beautiful journey and I enjoyed my stay in Florence. What I didn’t do was to organise my flights back to Belgium. Since I was travelling on a student budget, I had to look for “Discount Airlines” to fly back, and we know these airlines often use smaller airports outside of the major metropolitan areas. My flight back to Brussels, or I should say the most affordable flights were out of Pisa Airport. This meant that I had to take a train from Florence to Pisa and then fly out of Pisa to Brussels. So because my flight from Pisa was at night, I took a midday train out of Florence and spent the afternoon in the City of Pisa before I headed to the Pisa Airport. The few hours in Pisa I spent walking in the city and visiting the Square of Miracles where the Leaning Tower of Pisa is also located. The town is small. It is old and parts of it was decaying, but there is so much beauty in the decay of the city. It felt beautiful and mystical. I also loved the Keith Haring painting I saw on what felt like a random wall while walking in the city. There was something charming about the lemon and/orange trees in the streets of the city. It was fun being in Pisa. It was also a bit lonely because I had just separated from Pierre in Florence. He was headed to Milan for a conference. I had to suck it all up because I was seeing a historical Italian city. These pictures document my afternoon in Pisa, Italy.
